Welcome . . . Welcome . . .

To the official new website for the 2017 Stockings For Soldiers community project.

This year marks the 14th consecutive year of our community effort to send personalized Holiday greetings to our brave young men and women in uniform serving their Country half-way around the world.

Thanks to the great generosity of Louis Capano & Sons, the owners of the Branmar Plaza shopping center, our "Stocking Store" will, hopefully, be located, once again, at the same Branmar Plaza location that we have used for the past 11 years. We are located to the left of Walgreens at Silverside and Marsh Roads in Wilmington, Delaware.

Our official kick-off date for dropping off donations will be the week of Monday, October 2nd, 2017.

As we did last year, we will ask volunteers to DROP OFF donations starting Monday, October 2nd until Saturday November 25th, 2017.

Volunteer hours will start the following week on Oct. 9th, 2017. Our doors will open from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. from Mondays through Thursdays in the evenings only. Over the next eight weeks, we will be personalizing each stocking with the recipient's name, collecting the needed Goodies, sorting all the donations, stuffing the stockings with goodies, boxing them and shipping them to troops in the remotest regions of the World. Previously, our boxes have gone to Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, Israel, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Kosovo, Romania, Poland, Djibouti, Chad, South Korea and parts unknown.

Last year, over 1000 great volunteers helped us to mail out 1,200 boxes packed with 9,000 homemade, personalized Christmas Stockings that were filled with over 40,000 pounds of Goodies. We also made and shipped 1,300 polar fleece blankets and 500 knitted hats for our troops.

How you can help in October 2017:

Here are some of the many ways that you can personally contribute to the success of this year's Stockings For Soldiers Project:

Start sewing stockings now . . . many of our volunteers have been sewing and stockpiling stockings since January. The stocking pattern is available by clicking on the "Stocking Pattern" link under the “Items Needed” menu.  Be sure to use only colorful, cotton fabric and plain white, red or green felt for the cuff. We request that all the stockings be the same size, so please be sure to measure the finished stockings to be 15" high by 9" wide. For easy sewing tips, please see our video link to our great YouTube “How-To-Sew a stocking for our project. We have some special instructions for our sewing volunteers.  Please read them at our “Sewing Instructions” lf the donated stockings are too large, they do not fit into our two gallon ziplock bags.  Please help us by being sure to measure your stockings to be 15” x 9”.  Thank you.

Knit wool caps. .  . These are valued by our soldiers as warm winter helmet liners in the frigid mountainous regions of Afghanistan.  Knitting Instructions are available by clicking on the "Knitting Instructions" link under the “Items Needed” menu.

Purchase and donate fabric for stockings and polar fleece for our small blankets. Even if you do not sew, your contribution of fabric and polar fleece is much appreciated and will be used by those who do sew but don't have the funds to buy additional material. You can also cut out the stockings with our pattern.

Collect "gently used" music CD's, paperback books (no romance novels, please) and gently used DVD movies. (no VHS video tapes please).

Please make packets of "Snowman Soup" for our troops. (Hot cocoa (packet must be unopened) in a ziplock bag.) See our link for the "Recipe" under the “Items Needed” menu.   This is a great project for young volunteers to do with their families.

Ask your dentist to contribute toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss. You can expedite this by volunteering to bring the donated items to the Stocking Store any time after October 2nd, 2017.

Be sure to remember our brave K9 soldiers by donating items for them. Please see our K9 Shopping List. These specially trained dogs and their handlers would love to receive some Goodies also.

Socks: We will appreciate getting both Black and White CREW socks for our troops.

****Arrange for your school, church, synagogue, scout troop, service club and workplace to sponsor a collection campaign for items that we put into the stockings. A flyer with all the details about the project and a list of supplies we need donated is available by clicking on "Project Shopping List" link under the “Items Needed” menu. **** Receiving donations for the stockings is a major Priority for our project, please.

Arrange for your school, church, synagogue, scout troop, service club and workplace to sponsor a contest to see who can collect the MOST crew socks or disposable razors or toothbrushes or Ramen Soup, etc.,.

Arrange for your school, church, synagogue, scout troop, service club and workplace to write greeting cards and letters of support to our troops. Please limit the cards written to no more than 100 per person.

Finally, join us (and tell your friends to join us) by coming over to the Stocking Store any evening during our working hours.  Click on the "Hours" and "Location" links under the “About Us” menu to help us to make the Holidays brighter for our deployed troops.

PLEASE see our Link for our large groups on “HOW TO VOLUNTEER” to Sign Up to work with us.

A New Request: We are looking for used, cotton US Flags that are old and tattered and can NOT be flown. We will wash them, save their special embroidered stars and use them for gifts for our troops. We will then give the flags to the Boy Scouts to properly dispose of them. Our gifts are called “Starring a Veteran” and will be placed inside our stockings for some of our troops. Please put the flags inside a plastic bag and bring them to our Stocking Store, starting Oct. 2nd or mail them to us at: Stockings For Soldiers, 1911 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19810. For more information, please go to our link, “Donate a Flag” at the bottom of the right hand column on this page.

Please see the link for our new F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.)

Again, the first week of the project will be for Dropping Off Donations Only starting the week of Oct. 2nd through Oct. 5th and then Donations are needed until our deadline of November 25th. Starting the second week, we will ask volunteers to join us to work in the Stocking Store at Branmar Plaza, the week of Monday, October 9th through Friday, December 1st. Hours: Monday through Thursday, Evenings Only,

from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.

Stop by once, stop by twice or as often as you want . . . and stay as long as you want.  But be forewarned: the joy and satisfaction you'll receive from being a Stockings for Soldiers "Elf" is addictive . . .

We hope that you'll keep coming back to help us again!

Please HOLD on delivery of any donations until the week of October 2nd, 2017.

THANK YOU, Everyone. See You All in October.
